YEP Program.

The objective of the Youth Empowerment Program is to decrease adolescent sexual activity, pregnancies, births, repeat births, and sexually transmitted diseases/infections (STDs/STIs). The purpose of the YEP program is to promote sexual risk aversion as the optimal health message.

Our Objectives

  • By the end of the program year, eighty percent (80%) of participants will define abstinence as the best health method to prevent teen pregnancy, STDs/STIs.

  • Three-quarters of participants will complete at least 75% of the program and report having the ability to implement refusal skills.

  • By the end of the program year, participants will report a decrease in sexual activity.

  • Youth Development activities will be provided to all participants.

  • Seventy-five percent of participants will increase their understanding of Youth Thrive Protective Factors for youth resilience and adolescent development. The participants will also have access to counseling opportunities for concrete support in a time of need.

  • Utilize social media outlets for parent engagement, to reinforce curriculum instruction, community resources, and partner services, and to promote community awareness activities regarding sexual risk avoidance.

  • To reduce the normalization of adolescent sexuality, the program will distribute 100 Sexual Risk Avoidance Community Awareness Campaign Decals virtually and locally to community businesses.

Project Outcomes

  • None of the program participants became pregnant or fathered a child.

  • 81% of participants were present for 75% of the program.

  • The competition for Decals was a success. The winning sticker stated, “My life, my dreams, and my goals are at stake.” It was printed on water bottles, backpacks, and masks; then distributed to Atlanta YMCAs’ participating youth.
