WSCI HISTORY

The Wholistic Stress Control Institute, Inc. (WSCI) is an award-winning non-profit community-based organization founded in 1984 and incorporated in 1987 by Jennie C.Trotter. WSCI was born out of the need to provide stress and anger management services to youth due to turmoil they were experiencing centered around the Atlanta Missing and Murdered children. Work began initially in the Fulton County schools with the input and support of the community to develop the first agency prevention program called Project Stress Control. The success of this program in reducing stress and anger management among students, increased Teacher knowledge and support with classroom management, and positive parenting workshops set the foundation for a plethora of community based over the next 30 years. WSCI has managed over 75 projectsin its service history; has received over 30 federal grants and was fiscal agent for 10 federal grants involving community coalitions. From its birth to now, WSCI has the capacity andexpertise in development, implementation, administration, monitoring, evaluation and overseeingfunding for small to large project size and scopes as the agencies annual budget range over thepast 30 years has been $800k to $2M.

Since the inception, WSCI has had the honor of receiving two State of Georgia Governor’s Awards, evidence-based rating for it Color It REAL curriculum from the Substance Abuse Mental Health Service Administration National Registry of Evidenced Based Programs and Practices, spotlight feature on the Oprah show and the 2021/2022 Atlanta Public Schools Partner of the Year! The success of the agency is due to every person (pre-k student or senior participant), the numerous employees that have worked for the agency, the community, schools, juvenile justice department, other non-profits, businesses, elected officials, volunteers, the funding sources, and donations.
